Strategic Decision Making for Technology Policy

Government asked the Council for Science and Technology (CST) to advise on what would be the best areas to really focus resources for science, technology and innovation which could lead to applications in around five years time[1].

There were therefore two objectives for this project:

a narrower list than is currently available of really key technology areas that CST thinks Government should be focusing extra resources on within the five-year window.
a priority setting framework for decision-making that could be developed by Government in the future to make better choices between competing areas for technology funding.

CST's final report will appear on this page in Autumn.

[1] CST interpreted this to mean that the technology must have proven commercial feasibility within five years, with major market impact within ten.
